Julep Maven Review January 2014

Image

I was really excited when the January window opened up for Julep Maven. For those who don’t know Julep Maven is a nail polish and beauty subscription. Each month 21st- 24th we get to see the 5 box choices that cost $19.99. If you don’t like any of the boxes you can skip the month. If you love the whole collection you can upgrade, they offer various upgrades. I decided to upgrade to the Boudoir Collection which is an additional $35 on top of the $19.99 because I liked all the colors and finishes so much as well as the products.

I have a little story about the delivery because the pictures I have of the box might look a little tattered. So I went to USPS’s website and it said it was delivered however it was not at my door. I was ready to go to all the apartments near mine to find it, but first I was going to check my mailbox. My mailbox is so small so I didn’t think I would find it there (however they have done it before). But of course there it was, its like impossible to get the box out without damaging it. I guess the side where they put the mail in is bigger than the side where I take it out. I had to take a knife and scissors to my box, I wasn’t pleased. I tried to hide it in the photos. I left a note for my mailman. Next time I will have to just contact my post office.

Image

Look at all my pretties! I love them, and many of them have awesome finishes. The boxes are new too, no longer the black boxes with white writing. I really like the new boxes. I do have a stash of boxes I keep and reuse as gifts so I am sad this one is damaged from me prying it out of my mailbox.

Julep Nail Color in Hannah $14

Julep Nail Color in Abigail $14

Julep Nail Color in  Mae $14

Hannah was one that I was instantly very interested in, I love all shades of green. So I’m looking forward to putting this one on. Abigail is very pretty in person, better than the swatches on juleps blog lets on. I love purples and Mae is a very light shade of purple. It has a satin finish, I just hope this color isn’t too light for my skin so we shall see.

Image

Julep Nail Color in Margot $14

Julep Nail Color in Mona$14

Julep Nail Color in  Noelle $14

I almost put on Margot because she looked so pretty when I swatched her. I think she will be my next mani for sure. The gold color looks unique compared to other golds I have. Love it. Noelle reminds me of Farrah, but in a different color because it has that same awesome shimmer and has a silk finish. I really like this one, will be wearing it shortly. Mona looks very dark in person, it almost looks black (which I am not crazy about) but I will test this one out.

Image

Julep Nail Color in Annemarie $14

Julep Nail Color in Hope $14

Julep Nail Color in Farrah $14

I love Farrah! I am wearing her right now I had to put her on right away. She has a lovely shimmer and a silky soft finish. ❤ She is very elegant, and so far hasn’t chipped! I always have that issue when I don’t use topcoat. I’m not so crazy about Annemarie, not sure if I will swap her or what. And Hope is a white with a satin finish. I am excited by two of these three.

Image

Julep Vanish Cuticle Softener & Remover $18.00

I was really happy that this months beauty product is nail related! I have never used a similar product so I am excited to try it. I am not one of those people who obsess over their cuticles, but if there is a product to improve mine sure I want to use it.

Image

Julep Ta Da Quick Dry Drops $14.00

I’m glad I held off on purchasing these because I have been tempted over my time as a maven member and now it is included in a box. I love painting my nails, but I have this problem with sitting still after I paint my nails and then I smudge them, or ruin them and I hate that. I used this when I did my nails in Farrah and it worked like a charm. It does have an odd smell, it isn’t bad and it isn’t good. It kind of reminded me of Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle. She shows off her nail polish topcoat and says it smells like flowers and like garbage together. Not sure if it it smells like garbage but it is kind of a weird smell.

Image

Here is a picture of my nails, I feel like the photo didn’t really pick up on Farrah’s purple tinge but it definitely does have a purple shimmer. Love January’s box! I don’t have enough hands for all these polishes. Gosh I remember thinking when I signed up for Julep I thought I’d be skipping a lot because I thought you only need 10 to 15 nail polish colors. I surely was wrong! Thank you Julep I am a nail polish addict now.

That is what I received this month. Love it? Pretty awesome month to me. I am so excited to play with all my pretties.

Ipsy Bag December 2013 Review

 Image

Ipsy arrived, yay! Ipsy impressed me last month so this is definitely the highlight of my subscriptions this month. Ipsy is a subscription of beauty products, and it costs $10 dollars a month. Ipsy has become incredibly popular due to the fact each bag includes a lot of value! It’s not a box of mostly samples, it includes full sized products and deluxe samples. This box had all full-sized products.

Image

This months theme is Celebration! I love it. One thing I wish Ipsy would do is list the products in my bag, like Birchbox does. I know I can look it up on Ipsy’s website but it’s handy having it all there, so you know what you have right when you open the box.

IMG_3189

I was really impressed with this months bag, isn’t it so pretty? It has lined red in the inside, I love this glam bag and I am definitely keep it.

POP Beauty Bright Up Your Life Eye Shadow Trio (Naturally Bare) $ 6.00

I got the perfect colors for me! 🙂 I am pleased with these shadows very much. I do however have lots and lots of eyeshadow, but I don’t care. 🙂 It’s not too big, and I have never used POP so I am happy with new products to me.

IMG_3180

NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick (Fusion) $4.00

I love NYX, I do I especially like their jumbo pencils. 🙂 But this is my one item I feel meh about. I am just not a lipstick person. The color is very bold, so perhaps this will be given away.

IMG_3187

Nicka K New York Nail Color Taupe (Classic Taupe)  $4.99

I really like the bottle of this nail polish, I think I prefer the bottle more than the actual nail polish color. I have never worn a Taupe polish and it just doesn’t feel like me. So I might give it away, but who knows I might wear it. I have been developing a nail polish addiction and this is a new brand to me. 🙂 So we shall see.

IMG_3184

Be a Bombshell One stick (Flustered)  $16.00

This is my favorite one! I really like Be a Bombshell brand. It is a good product for sure. One stick is a 3 in 1 product, it is a shadow, a cheek tint, and lips. This color is pretty bold (why does Ipsy always give me the bold products?) But I used it and I actually really like it. This product will go into my rotation immediately!

IMG_3182

Mirabella Eye Blender Brush $27.00

This brush I almost missed because it was loose in the pink mailer ( it is a tad bit big for the bag). When I picked up I realized the handle has some serious weight which I like. I am weird and rarely use make up brushes ( I always use my fingers). I really like this brush, I would never spend the $27 dollars on a brush but it seems like it is definitely quality.

So that was my bag, once totaled it has a value of $58 dollars. 🙂 Ipsy you always make me happy, every item was full sized. I don’t know how they do it, but keep it coming Ipsy!

Glitter Guilty December 2013 Box Review

Image My Glitter Guilty Box came Saturday! 🙂 My first ever Glitter Guilty box, and my first subscription of the month ( I skipped Julep this month). I actually forgot about this and I was pleasantly surprised to see it on my doorstop. It came very fast! Glitter Guilty is a nail polish subscription that includes a full size nail polish, a mini nail polish and a yummy snack for $15.99. First of all the presentation is adorable! So cute the box wasn’t just thrown together like some boxes can be. I like the scrunched brown paper, and the little tags with the nail polish color names written on. Very cute and personal. IMG_3082

Yum Yum Yum, It’s blueberry cheesecake flavored popcorn! I haven’t had it but looks delicious. Also it is festive for the christmas time. I always remember having those giant popcorn tins with different flavored popcorns. 🙂

IMG_3077 IMG_3078

The Full size nail polish is Northern Lights. I love it! There is little tiny silver glitter flakes, then some medium and large sized blue and green glitters. I really like this color. It can be worn by it’s self or as a topper I prefer it as a topper.

IMG_3087 IMG_3090

My ring finger has Julep’s Dianna  and Northern Light as a topper. I love it so pretty! You can’t really see the silver mini flakes but they are there. My index finger has Northern Lights by it’s self. I really like the colors & glitters! The application is really nice too.

IMG_3079 IMG_3080

Here is my mini! It’s so cute and little! Pine Cones & Holly Berries is it’s name. It’s very fall-like. The base is clear, and I think wears best as a topper. It has different sized glitters in shades of gold, red, maroon, pink. It could look so pretty with many different colors underneath.

IMG_3093 IMG_3094

First picture is my nail with just the Pinecones & Holly Berries. Lots of glitter comes out for sure! The second one is with Julep’s Sienna, and Pinecones & Holly Berries.  I love my colors I got!

I am very happy with my box, I love it! So happy I found Glitter Guilty! If you’re thinking about breaking into the indie polish realm and love glitter you should  definitely try it. If you decide to get a subscription I’d love it if you type in Amanda Dixon in the referral section I’d really appreciate it! 🙂

Julep ZigZag Ultimate with Mystery Add On Review

securedownload

My box came! YAY! I love mysteries, but I will admit I did peak on some spoilers. :p I try not to watch my package tracking, but I end up doing it and I get all anxious for it especially since DHL never seems to update their tracking information. When I came home from work I saw a big Julep package biggest I have seen. It was a little deceiving which I assumed because it was such a big box. Over half of the box was stuffing. But the box was definitely heavier than my last mystery box. Here it is.

securedownload securedownload

It is very beauty product heavy. I would be more excited if it was more nail polish heavy like the Galaxy Box, but still I am new to Julep so I haven’t tried really any of these products. So it is still exciting to try these new products to me. Some of these items I even debated purchasing in the secret store this month. At least My Add-On’s gave me some more nail polishes!

Sugar Smooch Lip Scrub $14.00

Julep Nail Color in Zora $14.00

Julep Nail Color in Karen $14.00

I really like Karen in this set, not crazy about Zora . Karen has a really nice shimmer. I am not a huge fan of creams and this one is very white-like…so ehh.  I might give this one away. I do like the lip scrub its yummy cocunuty! And really does work, my lips feel so good when I put it on.

DoubleStep Foot Treatment and Friction Stick  $22.00

Products for my feet? Yes ma’am. My feet are so dry and get damaged. I love shea butter, so I will be looking forward to using this.

securedownload

Beach Tonic Dry Body Oil  $23.00

This seems like a good product (in the summer), it says it isn’t oily which is good and it smells nice. This I feel like doesn’t really apply to me right now. I live in Oregon it is getting cold now with lots of rain!  This is a summer product so it kind of bums me out I got this. I will use it though my legs always get so dry.

securedownload

Sea Salt Texture Spray $22.00

Another summer item. I have heard great things about this though and I will be using it!  It is supposed to add texture & volumize your hair. I love products like this. I am open to try more!

securedownload

Julep Essential Cuticle Oil $18.00

I recently received some cuticle oil I have been using. My cuticles aren’t the best so it’s nice to have more to take care of them.

Freedom Polymer Top Coat $18.00

I love this topcoat because it is different then other top coats. My nails feel stronger with it on, it has a high gloss and I will be using this every time now!  I only wish it came in a bigger bottle. This is something I have been wanting since signing up for Julep, but I did not feel like spending $18.00 dollars. Plus I assumed eventually it would be available in the secret store but this is better!

Julep Nail Color in Lois $14.00

Julep Nail Color in Amy $14.00

Julep Nail Color in Sienna  $14.00

I just don’t really like pink, especially a light pink so I am not so sure about it. I do like Amy , it is a very nice shade of blue, this will be used soon! I also received Sienna,  it is a pretty metallic gold-ish color. One thing that is bothering me is how not all nail polishes include the swatch me sticker on top. I’d just purchase them, but they are always sold out. Now of course since they Halloween color sets came out they had it as an add on. I have ordered a lot lately so I am going to wait & hopefully snag this later. I might regret this decision if it sells out again.

ZigZag Julep Stickers $??

How did I almost forget about the Main attraction ZigZag stickers. yay!

securedownload

You may have noticed my nails, it is my first try at gradient and it went pretty well! My inspiration was the fall leaves. I used Nan and Dahlia for the tips. 🙂 I really love Nan I am addicted!

Anyway back to the box. It totaled out at 187 dollars plus stickers so lets call them 3 dollars so its an even $190. I paid $44.98 with my $5.00 coupon. Total value is $145.02. It is a bargain and everything I got was new to me!  I’d of preferred more nail polish as opposed to beauty products. Also I feel like the theme is just silly. To me the ZigZag theme should include more than a small sheet of Chevron stickers. Maybe some cool tools for applying chevrons, maybe a plate with chevrons and a stamp. More than just the one item. I know they only advertised the ZigZag stickers but I just feel like you can’t make that the theme with only one item. Also many people with earlier ship dates didn’t even get their chevron’s in their box. Really? It seems awfully forgetful when that was the selling point.  It seems they had a lot of overstock so they pulled together this box to get rid of some of their items. Which is fine, but make the items at least fall-like. I do like these mystery boxes though (especially because I am a new julep member). I am sure once I have been with them awhile i will stop doing these because I will probably get lots of dupes. & it would be nice if it really was themed.

Julep Maven Review October 2013

Image

It’s Julep Maven Box time! For those who don’t know Julep Maven is a nail polish and beauty subscription. Each month 21st- 24th we get to see the 5 box choices that cost $19.99. If you don’t like any of the boxes you can skip the month. If you love the whole collection you can upgrade for $30 dollars.  There are also add on’s where you can add on special nail polishes for a good price. I am late to posting this, but late last week I received my October Box. It was a little disappointing that they never sent me a tracking number until it was practically here (come on what is that about). Anyway I chose the Bombshell, and added on Casper and Dahlia.

photo (17)

Kajal Eye Glider and Sharpener   $22.00

Well it glides on very nice and smoothly, but that’s about all I like about it. I put it on not much later I had raccoon eyes. I am so picky with eyeliner because it smudges very easily with a lot of brands I have tried. So not a fan, not sure what I will do with this. I love my Stila Stay All Day Waterprood Liquid Eye Liner, best stuff in the world. I will stick with that.

photo (18)

Julep Nail Color in Cleopatra  $14

Julep Nail Color in Valerie $14

Cleopatra has the latex finish, so it like a matte black. It’s very interesting, with one coat it is opaque ( I use two). It definitely shows your ridges in your nails though so make sure your nails are smoothed down. Dries mega fast.I do love this thought. Valerie is so very pretty, no clue why it is advertised as teal. No way is that teal! It is a dark green with a nice shimmer. I like it though.

photo (19)

Julep Nail Color in Dahlia $14

Julep Nail Color in Casper $14

I had to add these on. I don’t what it was about the gold shimmery Dahlia but I had to have it. Love it, I’m looking forward to wearing it. I tested it on my finger I love it. Great Octobery color. I will be using this shortly! And Casper. How could I not? Casper is a Glow in the Dark Polish. How cool is that? Just be sure you “charge” it, but placing it by some natural light (or for those in a rainy place like me put it next to a light). It is supposed to brighten it up so it isn’t as dim on your nails. I didn’t do this, but I learned. It has a nice shimmer to it, works well just as a polish itself. Can be used alone or on top of a color.

That is what I received this month. Love it? Pretty good, I could of done without the liner though. Now I am kind of regretting not adding on Beatrix. :/ But alas I have enough nail polishes (I am only Joking.)

Julep Maven Galaxy Supernova Mystery Box Review

Image

Holy Mystery Box I am so pleased with my Supernova Galaxy Mystery box. Isn’t it beautiful? As I counted down the minutes to it being 5′ oclock at work I anxiously checked my package delivery date with the tracking number I had received and was pleased to notice it would be arriving today. Am I completely silly that this mystery box would bring me so much excitement? No way, there is nothing better than receiving a gift I bought for myself and not knowing what it will contain. I’m very pleased I did buy this box. For those who don’t know Julep Maven subscription boxes are a monthly subscription service where you receive nail polishes and other beauty products. I received my September Box earlier last week. Then they announced  Galaxy Mystery boxes and how could I resist? I purchased the Supernova for $39.99, yes 39.99 remember that.  So what did my box contain? Let’s begin with the nail polishes. All 8 of them!

IMG_6233

Julep Nail Color in Adele    $14

I love Adele, It is very shimmery and sheer, very reflective when you move it around in the light. I think it would be a great color to use in the summer.

Julep Nail Color in Dakota    $14

Dakota is like a rich copper color, looks very much like a penny but with some sparkle. This isn’t a typical color I would buy, but I am looking forward to using it.

Julep Nail Color in Raegan    $14

Raegan is very BAM, bold and loud I would say. You don’t have to put but one coat on and I feel like it doesn’t even need a second one.

IMG_2683

Julep Nail Color in Tracy   $14

I love blues and shimmery blues are even better. I’m looking forward to using this one.

Julep Nail Color in Estelle  $14

I love Estelle, she after all was what intrigued me to buy the box. I look forward to attempting to create the perfect galaxy nails.

Julep Nail Color in Stefani     $14

I do recommend this one. I tried it on, it has great coverage I like the dark silver color with little tiny gold flakes. I do love grey though as well.

IMG_8490

Julep Nail Color in Nicollete    $14

I was least excited about this one, I’m not really into french manicures. It seemed really thick? Much thicker than the others. I’m sure I will work with it but not a favorite. I think it would be harder to work with because of the thickness.

Julep Nail Color in Amity (which isn’t for sell separately)   $14

Amity from the bottle looked similar to Stefani only lighter but once I swatched it I realized they are nothing alike which is great. It seems to be a little more sheer, but it glid on there real nice.

IMG_4478

Hand Model    $40

LOVE this stuff, after trying all the nail polishes I decided to use this three products. The first application you would use is the Glycolic Hand Scrub, I used it my hand were so soft and smelled very nice. Next you would use Rockstar Hand Creme. It has shea butter and coconut oil it feels nice non oily. Last I put in the Oxygen Nail Treatment my nails feel so nice and smooth. The Nail Treatment is supposed to strengthen the nails. Sounds good to me!

photo (2)

Moisturizer Mask Trio    $20

This Trio contains three packets, a nail moisturizer mask, a feet moisturizer mask, and a Hand moisturizer mask. From reviews I hear great things about these products, I know I will be saving these for a special occasion. We will see if they last that long!

Okay let’s total all of that up! For Non-Maven the cost is $172 dollars, that is a $132 dollar value! Pshh great deal! :)For Mavens/Sale the total cost is $124.18 that is a value of $84.19. Overall I am very pleased with my decision to get this box, lots of good stuff.

Are you wanting a Julep Box? You can try your first one for free with any of these Coupon codes: FREEMAVEN   MAVENBFF FREEBOX. If you do purchase this box I encourage you to use my referral link, help a sister out! 🙂

Julep Galaxy Mystery Box

66934_10152198252620884_43577412_n

I was avoiding this subscription box for the reason that I didn’t want to spend more money on nail polishes, but I caved! Put a space theme on anything and I can’t resist it, I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t purchase this. Ahh now I can’t wait to get it. Is it coming yet? I’m hoping this mystery box includes so awesome products as well as nail polish. There are three mystery boxes to choose from:

JULEP

I chose the Supernova of course! How could I not resist!  Once you choose your box they have their add ons. There is a mystery add on for $9.99 the value for it is $36 dollars. Unfortunately the add on is out of stock 😦 So sadly I did not get the add on.

Also I am sad, but for everyone who hasn’t purchased their mystery box and is on the fence there is this promo code where if you spend more than $20 dollars you get $5 dollars off your box. So instead of paying $39.99 for the super nova you only have to spend $34.99. I however did not find this promotion till after I bought it. Here is the code: BG74L8U

Also Julep Maven is giving away a $100 Julep gift card daily to a lucky winner who purchased a box the previous day via facebook.
This deal is only available until September 16th or while supplies last. Leave it to me to wait till the last day to jump on this. 🙂
