Birchbox Versus Ipsy Bag Face Off January 2014

This month both my Ipsy Bag and Birchbox arrived on the same day so I decided to do a Face-off between the two for the month of January. They are after all similar. Both Birchbox and Ipsy are beauty subscription’s costing $10.00 a month that include, samples as well as some full-sized products.  First Let’s start with Birchbox.

Image

I always love the box presentation with Birchbox, I think they do a splendid job in that arena. Also I love how the boxes are always themed and include a card with what products are included and what they are used for. Anyway this month’s box was heavier than it usually is, which is always a good sign.

My first product are these unfortunate packaged samples.

Image

100% Pure Nourishing Body Cream 3 samples (.067 fl oz each), Full Size: $15.00

I really hate samples like this, they are small  and sure there are 3 but I don’t feel like they should even count. Also they are in condiment sample packets. It looks like Ketchup.

Image

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle  Deluxe Sample, Full Size: $21.95

I feel like I get this kind of stuff all the time. But I do like these sorts of products, it’s just I am kind of backed up. I would of preferred something else, but I have heard good things about this product.

Image

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish  Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit Deluxe Sample (1 oz & muslin cloth), Full Size:$24.50

I really like this, it is the highlight of my box! It was the item that made my box kind of heavy. I started using it last night and then used it this morning. I really do need to take better care of my skin while I am young! My skin feels so soft even after a 10 hour work day. I will be buying this when I run out.

Image

Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish Mini in Kitten Heels (7 ml), Full Size (15ml): $10.00

Nail Polish! I have an addiction my collection keeps getting bigger and I like this one. The light didn’t capture how bold this fuchsia nail polish is. Also it changes colors, it turns a red color. Super Cool!

Image

Ahmad Teas Assorted Teas (Sample Size, 3 teabags), Full Size: $7.00

More tea! It will go away fast. I’ve never had this brand and it’s from London. I’m intrigued, yes it’s stereotypical to say hey its english and it’s tea so it has to be good, but we will see. The Peach and Passion Fruit one I am looking forward to.

The box also included these cool cards with sayings on them. The back of them have tips for Confidence, ways to get happier, etc. They are pretty and I already put them on my walls in my cubicle at work to keep me happy and positive.

Now on to Ipsy!

Image

I always love how Ipsy includes so much value in their bags. Also it always includes a bag.

There is the bag…

Image

I will be honest this is my first bag that I don’t like. It’s just a little cheapy compared to November and December, but who buys Ipsy for the bag? You can only have so many makeup bags right?

Image

Proactive Mark Fading Pads  Sample Size (4 packets)

What is this, small samples? Gah Ipsy went the same route as Birchbox and gave multiple small sample packs. I am not a huge Proactive fan. It just never worked for me. I will use them of course..and very quickly. I used one last night, it burned a little.

Image

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask ( 1 fl oz Sample Size)Full Size: $26.00

Here is my favorite product in the Ipsy bag. I already used it last night. First of all it smells AMAZING, and my ends of my hair felt so silky afterword. I like it. 🙂 I wish I had more, I might have to purchase it.

Image

Nourish Organic Face Lotion (Sample Size .5 oz) Full Size: $21.99

Who doesn’t like some moisturizer? It has shea butter, rosewater, and Moroccan Argan oil sounds awesome. 🙂

Image

Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil in Pearl (Sample Size), Full Size:$14.99

I do use Nyx jumbo pencils all the time, but I am not partial to creamy shadows because it usually creases. But I will try it,  love the color.

Image

Tinted Lip Balm Mica Beauty Cosmetics in Fiesta (Sample Size), Full Size: $30.00

It is a very pretty shade, I am intrigued by it. First of all the price tag is 30 dollars for a full size, expensive much? I am sure this will be my first and last Mica lip balm.

So that was my Birchbox and my Ipsy Bag which one do you think won this month? It’s tough, I will say that this was my least favorite Ipsy I have received (but I hold Ipsy to a high standard). I hold it to a higher standard because I was spoiled with November & December, they were AMAZING. So many full-sized products, exceptional value.  This one was so-so. Birchbox I liked this month more than usual. Mainly because of the Liz Earle Cleanser, and nail polish. I will give it to Birchbox this month! I declare them winner, however it was close. Anyway what do you think? I have 20 dollars worth of Birchbox points now! 🙂 What shall I buy..

Thinking about getting Birchbox or Ipsy? You can always use those referral links attached.

Ipsy Bag December 2013 Review

 Image

Ipsy arrived, yay! Ipsy impressed me last month so this is definitely the highlight of my subscriptions this month. Ipsy is a subscription of beauty products, and it costs $10 dollars a month. Ipsy has become incredibly popular due to the fact each bag includes a lot of value! It’s not a box of mostly samples, it includes full sized products and deluxe samples. This box had all full-sized products.

Image

This months theme is Celebration! I love it. One thing I wish Ipsy would do is list the products in my bag, like Birchbox does. I know I can look it up on Ipsy’s website but it’s handy having it all there, so you know what you have right when you open the box.

I was really impressed with this months bag, isn’t it so pretty? It has lined red in the inside, I love this glam bag and I am definitely keep it.

POP Beauty Bright Up Your Life Eye Shadow Trio (Naturally Bare) $ 6.00

I got the perfect colors for me! 🙂 I am pleased with these shadows very much. I do however have lots and lots of eyeshadow, but I don’t care. 🙂 It’s not too big, and I have never used POP so I am happy with new products to me.

IMG_3180

NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick (Fusion) $4.00

I love NYX, I do I especially like their jumbo pencils. 🙂 But this is my one item I feel meh about. I am just not a lipstick person. The color is very bold, so perhaps this will be given away.

IMG_3187

Nicka K New York Nail Color Taupe (Classic Taupe)  $4.99

I really like the bottle of this nail polish, I think I prefer the bottle more than the actual nail polish color. I have never worn a Taupe polish and it just doesn’t feel like me. So I might give it away, but who knows I might wear it. I have been developing a nail polish addiction and this is a new brand to me. 🙂 So we shall see.

IMG_3184

Be a Bombshell One stick (Flustered)  $16.00

This is my favorite one! I really like Be a Bombshell brand. It is a good product for sure. One stick is a 3 in 1 product, it is a shadow, a cheek tint, and lips. This color is pretty bold (why does Ipsy always give me the bold products?) But I used it and I actually really like it. This product will go into my rotation immediately!

IMG_3182

Mirabella Eye Blender Brush $27.00

This brush I almost missed because it was loose in the pink mailer ( it is a tad bit big for the bag). When I picked up I realized the handle has some serious weight which I like. I am weird and rarely use make up brushes ( I always use my fingers). I really like this brush, I would never spend the $27 dollars on a brush but it seems like it is definitely quality.

So that was my bag, once totaled it has a value of $58 dollars. 🙂 Ipsy you always make me happy, every item was full sized. I don’t know how they do it, but keep it coming Ipsy!

Ipsy November 2013 Review

Image

My first ever Ipsy arrived! The anticipation was killing me more than any other subscription I’ve received. This was due to the fact that I had been on their waitlist for 2+ months. I debated this subscription  for awhile, then once I knew I needed it, I had to wait. But it really was perfect because my first one arrived a few days after my birthday and my subscription seems to better than the last couple I’ve seen in the past (and those looked pretty awesome as well). It’s crazy this subscription only costs $10.00 (includes shipping), same as birchbox yet included so many full sized products. Not sure how they do it! So here is what I got.

Pretty Pretty bag! 🙂 Not crazy about gold, but I always need more bags like this for my cosmetics. Especially as they grow! 🙂

image (1)

em Michelle Phan Lash Gallery Waterproof  Dramatic Volume Mascara  $20.00

This mascara alone doubles the value of my ipsy subscription. I don’t think I would ever spend $20 dollars for her mascara, but still good value already. This mascara is so different from others I have because it is so light and not clumpy at all. It worked really well and I like the curved brush. 🙂 Also it is waterproof, I only buy waterproof so I would of been bummed if I got one of the others in her collection that aren’t waterproof. I love mascara so yay!

image (2)

Be a Bombshell Lip Crayon Some Beach  $14.00

Another full sized product! So I haven’t tried this on yet, still trying to decide yet if I want to try it or give it to my sister because she would really be into this. I am not really a lipstick, lip gloss, lip anything person, except lip balm. Maybe I should be adventurous. The color is a little much for me I think. But I’ve heard great things about the Be a Bombshell brand so I am still very happy I received this.

image (3)

Nailtini Caviar Cocktail $13.00

Nail polish, I love me some nail polish. It looks like a gunmetal type color, it looks pretty . I did not swatch this nail polish. I think the concept of naming nail polish after drinks is cute. I plan on swapping it or giving it to someone who would like it. As is my nail polish collection is growing and it is growing fast so I don’t really plan on using it. But still great value.

image (4)

Pixi Beauty Bronzer $18.00

I never use bronzer, am I weird? Probably, but part of the reason for these new subscriptions is so that I try more new things. So yea, this item is full sized. I used it this morning actually for my crease in my eyes ( I know it’s not for that), but I liked the coloring. I need to buy some brushes. Maybe groupon will have another bush deal.

image (6)

Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil $ 14.00

I just received a pallet of Starlooks from my FabFitFun subscription. I rarely use pencil anymore, but I tried this just above the black eyeliner I had on and I really liked it. My main worry was that it would fade but I wore it for hours and it still looked good. Also this is awesome how 5 of my items are full sized.

image (5)

BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Baked Eyeshadow Sample $2?

Here’s my one and only sample size, which is pretty decent. It looks pretty I like that there is a few shades in this sample. I definitely look forward to using it.

Verdict:

I spent 10 dollars on my bag and received a value of 71 dollars worth of product. This is a pretty amazing deal!! I am happy that this was my first bag because it really is a great one! Sure I might gift a couple of items but still I am very pleased. Can’t wait for my December bag!
