Birchbox Versus Ipsy Bag Face Off January 2014

This month both my Ipsy Bag and Birchbox arrived on the same day so I decided to do a Face-off between the two for the month of January. They are after all similar. Both Birchbox and Ipsy are beauty subscription’s costing $10.00 a month that include, samples as well as some full-sized products.  First Let’s start with Birchbox.

I always love the box presentation with Birchbox, I think they do a splendid job in that arena. Also I love how the boxes are always themed and include a card with what products are included and what they are used for. Anyway this month’s box was heavier than it usually is, which is always a good sign.

My first product are these unfortunate packaged samples.

100% Pure Nourishing Body Cream 3 samples (.067 fl oz each), Full Size: $15.00

I really hate samples like this, they are small  and sure there are 3 but I don’t feel like they should even count. Also they are in condiment sample packets. It looks like Ketchup.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle  Deluxe Sample, Full Size: $21.95

I feel like I get this kind of stuff all the time. But I do like these sorts of products, it’s just I am kind of backed up. I would of preferred something else, but I have heard good things about this product.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish  Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit Deluxe Sample (1 oz & muslin cloth), Full Size:$24.50

I really like this, it is the highlight of my box! It was the item that made my box kind of heavy. I started using it last night and then used it this morning. I really do need to take better care of my skin while I am young! My skin feels so soft even after a 10 hour work day. I will be buying this when I run out.

Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish Mini in Kitten Heels (7 ml), Full Size (15ml): $10.00

Nail Polish! I have an addiction my collection keeps getting bigger and I like this one. The light didn’t capture how bold this fuchsia nail polish is. Also it changes colors, it turns a red color. Super Cool!

Ahmad Teas Assorted Teas (Sample Size, 3 teabags), Full Size: $7.00

More tea! It will go away fast. I’ve never had this brand and it’s from London. I’m intrigued, yes it’s stereotypical to say hey its english and it’s tea so it has to be good, but we will see. The Peach and Passion Fruit one I am looking forward to.

The box also included these cool cards with sayings on them. The back of them have tips for Confidence, ways to get happier, etc. They are pretty and I already put them on my walls in my cubicle at work to keep me happy and positive.

Now on to Ipsy!

I always love how Ipsy includes so much value in their bags. Also it always includes a bag.

There is the bag…

I will be honest this is my first bag that I don’t like. It’s just a little cheapy compared to November and December, but who buys Ipsy for the bag? You can only have so many makeup bags right?

Proactive Mark Fading Pads  Sample Size (4 packets)

What is this, small samples? Gah Ipsy went the same route as Birchbox and gave multiple small sample packs. I am not a huge Proactive fan. It just never worked for me. I will use them of course..and very quickly. I used one last night, it burned a little.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask ( 1 fl oz Sample Size)Full Size: $26.00

Here is my favorite product in the Ipsy bag. I already used it last night. First of all it smells AMAZING, and my ends of my hair felt so silky afterword. I like it. 🙂 I wish I had more, I might have to purchase it.

Nourish Organic Face Lotion (Sample Size .5 oz) Full Size: $21.99

Who doesn’t like some moisturizer? It has shea butter, rosewater, and Moroccan Argan oil sounds awesome. 🙂

Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil in Pearl (Sample Size), Full Size:$14.99

I do use Nyx jumbo pencils all the time, but I am not partial to creamy shadows because it usually creases. But I will try it,  love the color.

Tinted Lip Balm Mica Beauty Cosmetics in Fiesta (Sample Size), Full Size: $30.00

It is a very pretty shade, I am intrigued by it. First of all the price tag is 30 dollars for a full size, expensive much? I am sure this will be my first and last Mica lip balm.

So that was my Birchbox and my Ipsy Bag which one do you think won this month? It’s tough, I will say that this was my least favorite Ipsy I have received (but I hold Ipsy to a high standard). I hold it to a higher standard because I was spoiled with November & December, they were AMAZING. So many full-sized products, exceptional value.  This one was so-so. Birchbox I liked this month more than usual. Mainly because of the Liz Earle Cleanser, and nail polish. I will give it to Birchbox this month! I declare them winner, however it was close. Anyway what do you think? I have 20 dollars worth of Birchbox points now! 🙂 What shall I buy..

Birchbox December 2013 Review

My Birchbox arrived! I’m always happy when this box comes in the mail. So for those who don’t know Birchbox is a monthly subscription of beauty samples, it costs $10.00 including shipping. This month’s box looks a little different, love the box.

This month’s theme is Holiday, not too surprising as it is December. It is great getting these subscriptions during the holiday months, I feel extra special in such a gift-giving month as it is. I really enjoyed the packaging.

Secret Agent Beauty Secret Lip Affair Nourishing & Plumping Lip Gloss
I have never heard of this brand, but I am looking forward to using it, and see how it stands up! I always have an issue with lip gloss because it’s usually a tad bit sticky.

Benta Berry G-1 Exfoliating Facial Cleanser Sample Size $?

I tried this stuff right away just before bed, holy crap did it burn! I don’t think is for me, my face turned all red. So I must have an allergy, so this is a no-go for me. Too bad, I do like cleansers.

Hayadi Pure Happy Smooth

I love these types of products. My hair always seems to be dry, so lets hope this works nice on my locks.

Chella Highlighter Pencil

I have a highlighter pencil that I love, so we will see how this one goes.

Chuao Chocolatier Chocolate Bar Honeycomb

Chocolate always makes me happy! 🙂 I ate this write after I took this picture. Yum yum, I was looking at the different types they have and they are so unique and sound so good!

That was my December Birchbox, it was alright. I thought it would be a little more festive like the wrapping suggests. So I wish they got more in the spirit of the holidays with this box. There isn’t one particular item I am ecstatic about. So this one was pretty mediocre. At-least I have 10 dollars in Birchbox credit now. 😀 What shall I buy for someone for Christmas? So how do you feel about your December box? Are you interested? You can always use my referral link.

Like my nails? I painted them with my new beauty! Dime Piece by Enchanted Polish. 🙂 I will need to write a post about the polishes I got from my restock. They are amazing.

Birchbox November 2013 Review

My Birchbox arrived! It actually arrived a little bit earlier this week but I’ve been busy so I am a little late! Anyway I’m always excited for my Birchbox. I seem to get all my boxes right in the same week, so it’s a week of goodness. 🙂 My box of course came as pretty as always. Lots of envelopes with stuff inside. My perspective with Birchbox has changed a little now that I have Ipsy as well. So for those who don’t know Birchbox is a monthly subscription of beauty samples, it costs $10.00 including shipping. To me the true value is in their points system. More on that later. So on to the goodies!

Color Club Nail Color in Baldwin Blues $ 8.00

It’s actually a really pretty shade of blue. I am tempted to use it, but I have so much nail polish now. So perhaps I will give it away. Makes a good stocking stuffer.

image (19)

DDF Amplifying Elixir Sample .5 Fluid Ounces  $? Full size: $70.00

I appreciate products for my face because I honestly never do much in the night or in the morning. I know I am bad! But I am trying to change, so more samples of products like this the better. We will see how this stuff works out.

image (18)

Joie Folle de Joie eau de parfum – 2 ml Value $1.70 Full Size: $98.00

This stuff smells so good! gah I love it. I was kind of meh when I first sprayed it on my wrist, but with time I kept smelling it and fell in love. Why must it cost 98 dollars for a bottle?!

Mox Botanicals Bath Milk .35 oz sample $? Full Size: $ 12.00

I wish I had a big bath tub to soak in this. 🙂 It smells nice and they are a company from Portland. My land! Looking forward to using this

image (20)

theBalm Cosmetics Stainiac – sample $? Full Size: $17.00

It’s been a really long time since I’ve used a product similar to this. It is a nice products just adds some color to your lips. It’s not crazy vibrant red or anything which I like.

image (21)

Might Leaf Tea– 3 tea Pouches $? Full Size: $9.95

I love tea! I have been using this in the mornings at work. I may have tried this tea once before just because I remember the elegant tea bags. Vanilla Bean is yummy.

That was my box this month! Overall it was decent, not my favorite birchbox I have received. Also this was the first month of Ipsy and since both are 10 dollar subscriptions I can’t help but compare the two. They are quite different, I am not sure how Ipsy can do these awesome full sized products but I am loving it! Birchbox on the other hand gives these much smaller (mostly sample sized products).   I think Birchbox has an awesome rewards system! I get 10 points for each review I do of a product I am given. So this month I earned 60 points just for this box, that is equivalent to 6 dollars. When you earn 100 points I have 10 dollars to spend in the birchbox store. It is a great value! So I am loving that! So birchbox is still a great deal and I love it.

Birchbox October 2013 Review

Hello Birchbox! I love receiving that pretty pink box each month! 🙂 This is only my second month but I can get used to this. I always bring up shipping, but I think it is important! I absolutely LOVE their shipping method! It is fast and comes from across the country! Keep it up, never change (Yes I am speaking of Julep).  I never really brought up my reason for my recent subscriptions but I believe I need to be pampered and I am out to explore products I’d probably never explore if it weren’t for the subscriptions I have. Sure it is nice to get a value but it is more or less for me to try new products!

This grabbed my attention. I have been looking for a product like this. Something to keep my brows neat clean and pretty! I earn 50 bonus birchbox points if I purchase this. I love Benefit too! Might have to do this.

photo (27)image

Bain De Terre Macadamia Oil Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner

It smells yummy! 🙂 I like these products. I have used them the last 2 days and my hair is nice and hydrated. I will  keep using it and see if I’d like to purchase it.

Benefit Fakeup

Benefit, I love using their products. A concealer in the correct shade for under my eyes. 😀 This is actually apart of a birthday gift from Sephora that is running right now. My birthday is coming up in November so I was probably already getting this. But hopefully I like it!

Karuna Exfoliating Treatment Mask

I’m excited to use this! 😀 It has awesome reviews and I always say yes to a nice exfoliating mask. 🙂 I might get addicted to this.

photo (24) photo (25)

Looks like we all got a bonus gift! Some hyrdating chapstick! 🙂 I am a strange one, I really only like using chapstick. Not much into lipstick or lip gloss.

That was my box! I’m pretty satisfied with the products and excited about these new products I get to try. If you would like to start your subscription it is $10 a month and is available at this referral link.

Birchbox September 2013 Review

I got my first Birchbox ever today! Woot woot! I am so excited that I joined, and was so happy to see my pretty pink box. For those who don’t know Birchbox is one of many beauty and lifestyle subscriptions (but the first) that includes beauty and lifestyle samples, and it runs at $10 dollars a month. Can’t get enough of these subscriptions. Of course this month’s box is the 3rd year Anniversary (so they’d better step up their game) & the theme was Heritage.

First of all I love the packaging, it just is clean and simple and I like how when you free the box you have this reusable box, yes you birchbox I will reuse you in some sort of DIY way. 🙂 It’s just nice when boxes seems to be created with care. Also shipping is fast, it shipped Monday from New York and I got it here in Oregon on Wednesday. Much faster then what I can say about my barkbox subscription.

First Item I noticed was Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray. This stuff is awesome it used for many different things, it is used to add lift and shine. This is also used to protect, nourish and volumize hair. Pshh where you last week when I bought a bottle of this mehh hair protector & some  volumizing products? This is awesome, Also it is the biggest sample I received, 2 fluid ounces! I’m gonna use this stuff up and will need to buy me some more.

I got Ruffian Nail Polish, full size  equates to 10 dollars (the cost of the box) . I knew I would be getting one of three colors since Birchbox had announced this. I’m very happy I got the green hue called Hedge Fund, it is shimmery green metallic. I like this, however I would of preferred not getting nail polish because I am subscribed to Julep Maven, I get many. My Birchbox profile also says this, however I knew it was inevitable everyone got one this month.

I also received Eyeko Black Magic Mascara. I love Mascara, however I am picky when it comes to them. It is a decent size,  it also has a curved brush which is cool. I loved it when I put it on this morning, but after my 11 hour work day I’m not impressed. It lifted my lashes for sure, but I wish it lasted. I much prefer my Le Volume De Chanel sample I’d received from a friend I have had for awhile (of course a full bottle does cost $30 dollars).

I also received a sample of Dr. Jart + BB Cream uhh yea I like this and I like it a lot. 🙂

Dr. Lipp Original Nipple balm for Lips. This is cool, because I can use it for other things than my lips. I can use for dry skin, lips, nipples, cuticles and feet. It definitely moisturizes well.

So that was my first ever Birchbox, and I am happy with it. I got cool items and I’m looking forward to using. Especially love the Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray. It’s 10 dollars, great value. I look forward to my next box for sure.
